Green discusses his association with the Museum's International Program and its director, Porter A. McCray, and his subsequent move to the Department of Architecture, directed by Arthur Drexler (1956-85). Philip Johnson's influence on that department during the late 50s is also mentioned. Other topics covered include the 1964 expansion project, the upheavals in terms of museum administration during the late 60s and early 70s and the formation of the Professional and Administrative Staff Union (PASTA/MoMA.).

On May 1, 1970, John Brantley Hightower (1933-) succeeded Bates Lowry as Director of The Museum of Modern Art. He resigned on January 5, 1972, at which time Richard E. Oldenburg was named Acting Director.
